This is a DIY project I thought of last month to help me teach my little princess learn about rewards and punishment. I also included a simple to understand calendar which includes the day of the week and the current date.

The reward and punishment:

There’s really no punishment, only a reward. If she gets at least 6 smiley faces within that week, she gets the chance to go to SM or ATC (malls) on Sunday (if she wants to). If not, then we just stay at home.

It may seem to be an expensive reward but it’s not. She likes to go to SM to check the puppies/pets at bioresearch. She also likes to ride the train which only cost about PHP40 per head, so that’s PHP80 for the two of us and we don’t ride every time we go there. Then I treat her anything she wants to eat. There are times we end up not eating there at all since she wants rice for mirienda

At ATC, she always always rides the merry-go-round which only costs PHP25 (free for accompanying adult). We seldom go there, only when daddy (the financier) is going with us (and treat us for lunch/mirienda/dinner).

Oh, and if she gets a happy face for the day, she can play the Nintendo DS before going to sleep. Curfew is still 9PM on schooldays TV is only allowed starting Friday afternoon until Sunday morning.

As of current, the little princess has manage to earn at least 6 smiley faces since we had this. She feels sad when there’s a sad face and she tries to make up for it by being good the rest of the day. But there was even a time that she was naughty the whole day. Sinagad nya talaga! LOL!

And this morning, she was being her makulit self again. I asked yaya to remove all the smiley faces for the week. Then awhile ago over lunch, she didn’t want to eat, she just wanted to watch TV. I showed her the chart and told her she already has 7 sad faces. She told me no while crying… I told her I will change the sad faces to smiley faces if she stops crying and eats her lunch properly. It was surely effective. She stopped crying, behaved herself and ate lunch without a fuss.

Thanks to Magpie Musing, I had an idea for a Grocery/Reminder List board to be placed in our kitchen. I already have another idea which I saw from my sister’s kitchen. Wanted to have one like that but the problem was, the list was written in German! LOL! The list is somehow similar to the next picture.

Great idea, right? Just have to turn the arrow if you need to buy which ingredients you are lacking. It’s also a nice decoration in the kitchen. If only they had one in English (when we were in Austria… )

Anyway, while searching the net for this stuff, I came across Magpie Musing’s blog and saw her grocery board. Thanks to her, I had something better to do than buy a white board/cork board for the kitchen. You see, Yaya G is so forgetful. She was complaining the other day about some stuff I forgot to buy in the grocery. I told her she never told me she needed one . And she retort back, she was not here (good point, she was on vacation!)

So, to make the long story short, we really need to have a board for her. Whenever we ran out of things, she just needs to right it down until grocery day.

And so, my first ever DIY Project: Reminder/Grocery List Board.

materials:
- board
- nuts and bolts
- 2 small size curtain rod brackets
- paper clip
- roll of paper (one used for cash register)
- used pencil/old unusable pens
- wall hook
- string

optional
- stickers
- eyelets
- rubber band

directions:
I was suppose to use a chopping board for this one. But the only available in our local department store was about half an inch thick. Too excited to do this so I opt to use an 8×10 canvass board.

- using a pointed screw, we made 4 holes for the nuts, bolts and curtain rod bracket.
- insert nuts from back to front.
- insert bolts. since our paper was too thick, the initial bolt was about 1/4 inch away from the end
- insert curtain rod bracket and secure with another bolt
- glue in paper clip at the side (for pen holder)
- secure string at the back using the nuts

Decorate the board as you like. I used my scrapbooking materials for this one. Also added an eyelet down below to place a rubber band. This will help secure the paper on the board. It cost me PHP176 not including the stickers, eyelets, string (from one of the paper bags), paper (cash register paper we had since 2004), pen (used), paper holder (unused Singapore pen) and a rubber band. These other items were readily available.

And so there you have it, my first ever DIY (house) project! Like it?
